Turning a Passion into Purpose: Volunteer Story

Turning a Passion into Purpose

In honor of National Volunteer Week, one of Insight’s newest volunteers shares more about her passions and why she volunteers to support those living with dementia.

Why am I passionate about fighting Alzheimer’s Disease?

Having experienced firsthand loving a family member who had Alzheimer's disease, I recognize it's a challenge that requires understanding, empathy, and, above all, awareness.

Leveraging my passion for both violin and running presents a unique opportunity to provide support and solace to Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. Music has long been recognized for its therapeutic effects on individuals with Alzheimer's, offering a means of communication and emotional connection even when verbal communication becomes challenging. By incorporating my violin playing into caregiving environments, I can create moments of comfort and joy for those affected by the disease. Whether it's playing familiar melodies to evoke memories or simply providing a soothing backdrop to their day, my musical talents can make a profound impact on Alzheimer's patients, offering them moments of respite from their struggles.

In addition to my love for music, my passion for running can also play a significant role in supporting Alzheimer's patients and caregivers. Organizing charity runs or walks dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer's research and support services can galvanize communities and foster a sense of solidarity among those affected by the disease. By participating in such events, caregivers can find a supportive network and a sense of empowerment, knowing that they are not alone in their journey. Furthermore, physical activity has been shown to have numerous benefits for both physical and mental well-being, which can be particularly valuable for caregivers who may be under immense stress. By combining my love for running with my dedication to Alzheimer's advocacy, I can create meaningful opportunities for support and engagement within my community.

Ultimately, by leveraging my passions for violin and running, I have the potential to make a profound difference in the lives of Alzheimer's patients and caregivers. Whether through the therapeutic power of music or the communal spirit of charity events, my efforts can bring comfort, raise awareness, and provide much-needed support to those affected by this devastating disease. By sharing my talents and enthusiasm, I can inspire others to join in the fight against Alzheimer's, fostering a community of compassion and resilience in the face of adversity.
