FY24 Accomplishments
What we've done since July 2023!
1. Caregiving at a Glance is now available in county libraries across the region and was accepted into the Library of Congress! The Virginia Department of Health and the Max and Victoria Dreyfus foundation awarded us funding to print additional copies and help distribute throughout Virginia.
2. Insight was honored to be selected by Compass Pro Bono for an 8-month strategic planning project to inform decision making for responsible and sustainable growth.
3. In September 2023, our annual monitoring visit from the Virginia Department of Social Services was completely deficiency free for the 13th year in a row to renew at the highest level of licensure.
4. In September 2023, Insight offered a “New Alzheimer’s Treatments Q&A” with Dr. Turner from the Georgetown Memory Disorders Program. Over 200 joined us online to discuss Leqembi and other current treatments. 993 people have since watched the recording; Insight’s webinar views were up 56% overall this year!
5. Partnered with George Mason University’s Social Work Department for a research study on the benefits of the Obie for Seniors. Participants in the day center and our early stage Reconnections program had fun with the interactive gaming system!
6. In October 2023, we were featured on News Channel 7, highlighting our day center as a “lifeline” for families living with dementia.
7. 12th Annual Paintings & Pairings fundraising event was bigger than ever at the Westfields Marriott on October 20, 2023. Beyond enjoying the evening, Insight supporters generously helped us raise over $190,000 in support of our programs.
8. We awarded our 8th annual Excellence in Memory Care Award to The Virginia Memory Project, the first expansive web-based brain health registry in Virginia, and the only registry in the country that provides a pathway to services, includes caregivers, and encompasses people with subjective memory loss.
9. We celebrated Giving Tuesday on November 28th, highlighting holiday gift ideas, interactive technology in the day center, and a roundtable discussion on dementia care needs in the community.
10. January 2024 marks the beginning of Insight’s 40th Anniversary! We celebrated throughout the year with new education and support opportunities, ways to give, and have a big celebration planned for July!
11. At the beginning of 2024, Insight began incorporating the Otago Exercise Program, a balance and strength training program, which, if performed consistently, has been shown to decrease fall risk 35 to 40% in older adults.
12. Offered a special presentation of “Dementia Man: An Existential Journey,” the critically acclaimed autobiographical story of a man who faces his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by actor and playwright Samuel A. Simon.
13. With the popularity of virtual education, Insight began offering Self-Paced Learning! Our first course is “Caring for You: Mind, Body & Soul,” developed in partnership with The Martha W. Goodson Center.
14. Insight was honored to receive the 2024 Rotary Creator of Hope Community Service award from the Tysons Rotary.
15. Through a partnership with the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, we began offering weekly Dance for Brain Health classes in February 2024.
16. Our early stage Reconnections program celebrated its 10th Anniversary this spring! The program began two days a week in a local church and is now offered at three locations throughout the county!
17. Developed a partnership with See Me at the Smithsonian to offer virtual museum visits for our early stage Reconnections participants!
18. Over 200 joined us online for a screening of the documentary “Saving Claire,” and a discussion with the Northern Virginia Falls Prevention Alliance.
19. At the 4th annual Legacy Breakfast on May 8 at the Westwood Country Club, guests enjoyed a fantastic morning with the Sentimental Journey Singers, Insight stories, and care partner testimonials.
20. Melissa Long, our Director of Education and Support, was honored with a 2024 Equality Loudoun Pride Award for mission in service to the queer community and the Loudoun community!
21. Insight offered Memory Screenings regularly at the Wellness Center for Older Adults, along with a number of community locations throughout the year. Memory screenings were up 50% from the previous year!
22. Insight offered a variety of support groups throughout the year to meet the differing needs of care partners. 1773 attended groups, a 26% increase from the previous year!
23. 115 volunteers provided a total of 5,346 hours of service for Insight this year, doubling the hours of service from the previous year, for a value of $170,015 for our organization.
24. Over $203,000 was provided to 20 families in financial assistance throughout the year, allowing families to participate in our Day Center and Reconnections programs.
